Abinaya Corps Heavy Metal Review

Abinaya was a big surprise to me. This band has great sound. Now, I do not speak French, but I can tell you this is great music. When you first listen to the Corps CD you will notice the drums right away, as they standout but don't overpower. Great riffs galore with vocals that give the sound a nice synchronization. The tribal drums fit very well and Corps feels very old school, but it has plenty of new elements. You can listen to the album in full pretty easy, What I mean by that is I do not find myself pressing the forward button to skip songs.

The sound is clean and crisp with no distortion and the production is done very well. There is plenty of variety on the Corps CD without loosing focus. The problem is, I am not sure how far reaching this band will be, because of the language barrier?

I would classify the Corps album as heavy metal but others will disagree. Heavy riffs with at times a double bass are my reasoning. Be it hard rock or metal, Abinaya is really terrific and deserves attention. Abinaya proves to be a hard hitting force with their album Corps. This release has great energy form start to finish.

Pronouncing its name is like letting out a breath… ‘Abinaya’ means ‘passing on’ in Sanskrit. This is the very essence of the band with hybrid influences (metal with leaden riffs akin to Zakk Wylde or Down’s, Indie rock torn by poetic lyrics, tribal explorations similar to Soufly’s). With an original rhythmical bass (drums and percussions) its rock bounces onto the public and transcends it in a clash of sharp riffs and tribal vibrations.

Having performed in over a hundred gigs ( Scène Bastille – Paris, Tauriac’ Oustik Festival, Transhumances Festival – Gironde, 24hours for Tibet – Savoie, Harleys gatherings all over France) the four members of the band radiate a unique kind of energy.

Abinaya could be the name of a tribe, but first of all it’s a breath on glowing embers, the humanity of a call to freedom, a musical and poetic revolution…

‘Corps’ is the latest and second album of the band. Recorded and mixed by K. Pandele of Wavium Studios (Paris), renowned for its heavy sound, distributed by Brennus Music (Satan Jokers) and promoted by Replica Records (Angra, P. Rondat, Freak Kitchen) and Two Side Moon Promotions (UK), It was released March 2009.
